Public Events
WisCOSH is a network of health and/or safety professionals, activists, and concerned workers and former workers. And as such we try to interact with the public at as many events as we can find volunteers to staff.
That's right, volunteers! WisCOSH is a non-profit organization and we put as much of our operating expenses towards getting you occupational safety and health information as possible.
So join us at the following events, or contact us about an event that you are sponsoring or that you would like to have WisCOSH attend.
- February 6 & 7, 2010 : Hearing Loss Screening
In an effort to help workers who've been injured by the loud environment they work in WisCOSH has teamed up with Sound Advisors, an informational service of Johnson Law Offices to provide FREE hearing loss screening. There are many occupations which have loud or noisy working conditions which may have damaged worker's hearing. Hearing loss related to the work environment is compencable under WI Workers Compensation law.
WisCOSH and Sound Advisors first held screenings at WisCOSH's new office at the end of February 2009. The turn out was good and many who visited that day and received the free screening found that they did have damaged hearing and have since had follow-up testing as well as filed claims with WI Workers Compensation.
Since that time WisCOSH has had numerous inquiries as to additional screening. We are glad to say that February 2010 will find two opportunities for workers in SE WI to find out if they've suffered work related hearing loss and what can be done about it. On Saturday, February 6 WisCOSH and the Waukesha County Labor Council will co-host a sceening at the Labor Temple in Waukesha from 10 am - 4 pm. Then, on Sunday, February 7 WisCOSH invites workers to our new location for an additional opportunity to have a hearing loss screening. Contact WisCOSH to make a reservation. For more information.
- February 11, 2010 : 31st Annual Membership Meeting and Fundraiser Dinner
WisCOSH invites all workers, whether members or not, whether in a union or not, to join us as we celebrate the many great strides taken in OSH both on the Federal level as well as here at WisCOSH in 2009. Long time WisCOSH supporters ATU Local 998 has invited WisCOSH to hold our celebration at the ATU Local 998 Union Hall. [More information
- April 28, 2009 : Workers Memorial Day
WisCOSH, MCLC, WI AFL-CIO and everyday workers of all occupations and communities will gather at Zeidler Union Square in downtown Milwaukee, WI to remember those workers lost to workplace injury and illness in 2009.
Just how safe and healthy is our workplace, that of our loved ones and our neighbors? What needs to be done to prevent the next workplace tragedy? Join WisCOSH, the Milwaukee Area Labor Council, guest speakers and many workers. There will be a reading of the names of those workers killed on the job or died due to occupational illnesses in Wisconsin during 2009 as well as those service men and women who've died in combat which will be followed by a period of reflection and remembrance.
